Overcoming Educational Challenges

The biggest challenge in education is getting the theory and methods into practice. Conventional lecture-only training has limited effect for two reasons:

  • Relevance: The amount of material immediately relevant to any particular student ranges from 20 to 60%. Though some material may not be immediately relevant, it is important nonetheless to expose students to the material because it might be relevant in the not-too-distant future.
  • Retention: The half-life of training/education is very short. Within a week about 50% of what was learned is lost unless it is reinforced an applied. Still, live-lecture training has its advantages, the most important being that students actually have dedicated, non-distracted time to learn. That does not happen often with web-based learning or e-learning.

The solution is to combine methods of training.

Our learning programs are now structured so that every a live training course, either on-site or live-web, includes a one year subscription to our e-learning courses (see below).
  • Through the use of dynamic illustrations and simulated data students can actively engage with simulated challenges, which is a proven method of increasing retention.
  • For each day of training delivered onsite we provide 2 hours of offsite support (that must be used within 6 weeks of completing the course). This can be extended by subscribing to our Statistician on-call service
